Bill Thompson is artist as believer. It is almost contagious. Correction. It is contagious. It is what defines the work. We catch it! We get it!

He pulls it all together. Never stops making it better. Never stops.

I first wrote about him 25 years ago in a column I had with the Christian Science Monitor: Art Now. I wasn't completely kind. Too much muscle for my taste. Not enough heart. He tracked me down. He won me over. He showed that he was about one thing: making it better! And he did! We became great friends.

He cut the muscle and introduced his sense of humor. It is there now. Totally. And the work behaves amazingly. It moves us in and out of it through what? Reflection! How extraordinary! Monochromatic, he tells a single color story. This is the color you see here, or there. A memory. A revelation! And a shape! Like Star Trek: a final frontier! And still, there is the wry little joke. The smile. The nod to the gods for a guy who courts the impossible: perfection. The cosmic poem, the cosmic joke! Bravo! Brilliant!! I love the work!
